Case study — Brand Design, Website

A new brand and a searchable online archive for Australian Mutuals Archives

The problem

Australian Mutuals Archives — previously known as Australian Mutuals History — preserves the records and artefacts of Australia’s mutual banks and credit unions. Its visual identity no longer captured that mission, and its website lacked the functionality needed to properly search an extensive archive of historical records.

Our approach

We started with the brand: the transition to the Australian Mutuals Archives name, a modern logo introducing a sideline element representing files and systems, an updated colour palette with gradients, and a refreshed tagline centred on preserving and sharing the legacy of mutual banking. The website followed — user testing with financial professionals, historians and the general public shaped an advanced search across records, artefacts and documents, combined with categorisation and digital exhibits. A flexible CMS lets the team update collections themselves, and the site was built to web accessibility standards with a fully responsive, mobile-friendly layout.

The outcome

The new identity positions the organisation as a modern, authoritative guardian of mutual banking history. Visitors can now easily find detailed information about mutual banks and credit unions from the past, and the team keeps collections and records current themselves — no developer required.
