WordPress Development
A Sydney WordPress agency for organisations that have outgrown templates and page builders. We design and build custom WordPress platforms — from GPSL's lead-generation site to the Customer Owned Banking Association's member portal — and rescue the ones other agencies left behind. Part of ourwebsite development practice.

Custom theme builds
Fully custom WordPress themes with reusable, modular blocks — no page-builder bloat. Built for speed and SEO, structured so your own team manages content without a developer: the approach behind GPSL, MUK Haircare and Doltone House.
Headless & static WordPress
WordPress as the CMS your team knows, with a fast static or headless frontend in front of it. We serve our own site, shakewell.agency, as a static build for exactly this reason — we'd rather prove the performance case on our own domain first.
WooCommerce & e-commerce
WooCommerce builds and integrations — like the WooCommerce and ticketing setup in the Doltone House platform. And because our e-commerce team also runs Shopify and Adobe Commerce at enterprise scale, we’ll tell you straight when WooCommerce is the right tool and when it isn’t.
Rescues, performance & security
Inherited a slow, fragile WordPress site from a previous agency? We review, stabilise and rebuild — as we did for the Customer Owned Banking Association’s website and member portal — then keep it fast, patched and monitored under ongoing support.
Proof, not promises
For GPSL — a global enterprise content management provider — we rebuilt the brand and built a high-performance WordPress site around lead generation: campaign landing pages, styled Zoho form integrations and live chat.Read the GPSL case study.
When COBA's website and member portal from a previous agency weren't meeting anyone's needs, we reviewed, fixed and enhanced both — then stayed on under an ongoing support contract. It is the same approach we take to anystalled or inherited project.Read the COBA case study. See also MUK Haircare and theAustralian Mutuals Archives.
Selling more than content?
When a store outgrows WooCommerce, the same team supports Australian retailers onShopify andAdobe Commerce (Magento) — so the platform advice you get is grounded in running all three.
Common questions
How much does a WordPress website cost in Australia?
A professionally designed small-business WordPress site typically starts in the mid four figures, while a custom-designed marketing site with a bespoke design system and CRM integrations usually sits in the tens of thousands. It depends far more on integrations, content and certainty of scope than on page count, so we would rather scope it than quote a number blind. Our guide to what a website costs in Australia sets out the typical market ranges, and how we engage explains the models.
Do you work with clients outside Sydney?
Our head office is in Sydney and we work with clients across Australia — Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and regional NSW included. Delivery has been remote-first for years, so a project runs the same way whether you are ten minutes away or in another state: scheduled calls, a shared board you can see at any time, and one named point of contact. We are happy to meet in person in Sydney.
Can you take over or fix an existing WordPress site?
Yes — rescues and takeovers are a large part of what we do, and they do not require a rebuild. We start with an audit of the theme, plugins, hosting and security posture, then give you a written view of what is worth keeping, what is creating risk, and what it would take to stabilise it. Plenty of sites need a focused fortnight of work rather than a new build.
Do you build headless WordPress?
Yes, where it earns its place. Headless WordPress — the CMS as an editing back end with a Next.js front end — gives you speed and front-end freedom, at the cost of a more complex build and losing the live preview editors expect. It suits content-heavy sites with demanding performance requirements. For a standard marketing site, a well-built traditional theme is usually the better value.
Is WordPress secure enough for a business website?
Yes, when it is built and maintained with discipline. Nearly every WordPress compromise traces back to an abandoned plugin, an unpatched core version or weak hosting — not to WordPress itself. We keep the plugin count deliberately low, patch on a schedule, and put a managed host and a real backup policy behind it. A site nobody maintains is the risk, whatever the platform.
Why do businesses still choose WordPress?
Because the editing experience is genuinely good and everyone already knows it, which matters more than it sounds: a site your marketing team can update without raising a ticket gets updated. Beyond that — a mature ecosystem so less is built from scratch, no licence cost, hosting and skills that are easy to find, and no vendor who can change the rules on you. The trade-off is that discipline has to come from the build, because the platform will happily let you install forty plugins.
What can you integrate a WordPress site with?
CRMs and marketing automation, forms and lead routing, analytics, booking and ticketing, payments, and internal systems over an API. Real examples from our own builds: styled Zoho forms and embedded live chat for GPSL, and WooCommerce with event ticketing, Gravity Forms, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for Doltone House. Where no sensible plugin exists we build the integration rather than bending the site around a bad one.
Should we use WordPress or a custom framework like Laravel?
If the hard part of your project is content — pages, campaigns, publishing — WordPress is usually right. If the hard part is behaviour — accounts, workflows, permissions, data — you want a framework such as Laravel underneath. We wrote the full decision framework in Laravel vs WordPress for business platforms.
