Magento support across Australia
Most searches that reach this page say Magento rather than Adobe Commerce, and most of them name a city. Both are worth answering plainly. Magento is the platform Adobe acquired and renamed — Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce are the two editions, and the skills and the codebase are the same either way. If you are running Magento 2, you are running the thing this page describes.
On the city question: our office is in Sydney, at 223/111 Harrington Street in The Rocks, and we work with retailers in Melbourne, Perth,Adelaide, Newcastle and regional Australia — plus New Zealand, where we have run duty-free commerce across the major airports since 2021. Commerce support is remote work by nature: patching, releases and incident response do not happen in a room. What matters is timezone overlap and a named person who knows your platform, and both are the same wherever you are.
Same for support arrangements. If your store is on an older Magento 2 release, the deadlines are real and public — seewhat an Adobe Commerce upgrade costs and when you must move.
Build & replatform
New Adobe Commerce builds and structured replatforms — including consolidating multiple Magento instances into a single multi-site setup that cuts licensing and maintenance cost. We also give straight advice on the path forward: stay and upgrade, move to Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service, or move off entirely.
Complex commerce logic
Multi-currency, multi-language, duty and tax calculation, and real-time inventory across locations — the hard commerce logic most agencies avoid. It's the engine behind the duty-free platform we run for Aelia Duty Free across airport stores in Australia and New Zealand.
ERP & SAP integrations
Automated sales exports into SAP, ERP-driven stock and pricing, freight and payment integrations — so the store, the warehouse, and the back office all agree on what just happened.
Performance & stability rescue
Inherited a slow, buggy Magento build from a previous partner? Our first phase is triage: stabilise the platform, clear the long-standing issues, then move to a structured cadence of upgrades, patching, and proactive monitoring.
Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce?
They share a codebase; they are not the same decision. The honest split, from running both:
you want full ownership with no licence fee, your catalogue and pricing rules are complex enough to rule out hosted platforms, and you have — or hire — the engineering to run it properly. Most of our Magento support work is Open Source stores, and staying put is often the right call.
you need the B2B suite, Page Builder for a marketing team, Live Search and product recommendations, or the cloud infrastructure and support SLAs behind it. The licence is quote-based and scales with revenue — budgeting for it honestly is part of the advice, not an afterthought.
And when neither fits — the catalogue is simple, the team is small, the engineering budget belongs elsewhere — the answer is usuallyShopify, and we will tell you so before you spend on either;moving from Magento to Shopifyis work we plan around URLs and data rather than the storefront. Ourupgrade and support budgeting guidecovers what staying current actually costs, and both paths sit inside ourend-to-end e-commerce practice.
Proof, not promises
When Aelia Duty Free — Lagardère Travel Retail's duty-free brand — needed a partner to stabilise and grow its Magento platform, Shakewell took over: multi-currency, duty and tax logic, real-time inventory, and automated SAP exports, operating across all major New Zealand airports since 2021. Whether that means staying on Adobe Commerce orreplatforming, we give a straight recommendation.Read the Aelia Duty Free case study.

More on commerce
Two Thirds of Australian Retail's Page Weight Isn't Theirs
We measured 21 of Australia's largest online retailers. None scored above 44. The median site ships 7MB, and 62% of it is third-party code the retailer didn't write.

Adobe Has Patched StyleSmuggler. Patching Is Not the Whole Job.
Adobe has released APSB26-146 for CVE-2026-75650. Apply it now — but a patch does not clean a store that was already compromised. What to preserve before you patch, what to check after, and the disclosure clock most coverage skips.

Common questions
Do you support Magento and Adobe Commerce upgrades?
Yes. Upgrades, security patching and version migrations are ongoing work for us rather than one-off projects. If you are running an older Magento 2 release, we can tell you what is involved in getting current, what will break, and how to sequence it so the store keeps trading throughout.
Can you take over an existing Magento store from another agency?
Yes, and it is a common way our engagements start. We begin with a handover audit — codebase, extensions, integrations, hosting, outstanding patches — so you get an independent picture of what you actually own before committing to further work. Nothing about a takeover requires replatforming.
Do you work with retailers outside Sydney?
Our head office is in Sydney and we work with clients across Australia — Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and regional NSW included — as well as in New Zealand, where the duty free stores across the major airports have run on a platform we build and support since 2021. Delivery has been remote-first for years, so a project runs the same way whether you are ten minutes away or across the Tasman: scheduled calls, a shared board you can see at any time, and one named point of contact. We are happy to meet in person in Sydney.
Should we move from Magento to Shopify?
Sometimes, but not automatically. Shopify removes infrastructure and upgrade overhead, which suits teams without dedicated developers. Adobe Commerce earns its complexity when you have deep catalogue rules, complex B2B pricing, multi-store or multi-currency requirements, or ERP integration that would fight a hosted platform. We will give you a straight recommendation, including when it is to stay put.
Why choose Adobe Commerce over a hosted platform?
Because some businesses genuinely do not fit the hosted model. Deep catalogue rules, B2B pricing and customer-specific price lists, multi-store or multi-brand setups, multi-currency and multi-language, and ERP integration that has to be exact rather than approximate. Adobe Commerce gives you control over all of it. If none of that describes you, it is more platform than you need and we will say so — the complexity is only worth carrying when you are actually using it.
Can you integrate Adobe Commerce with our ERP or POS?
Yes, and it is usually the hardest part of the project rather than an add-on. For Aelia Duty Free we run automated sales exports into SAP alongside real-time inventory across multiple airport locations. On venue platforms we have scoped and architected against the POS, ordering and ticketing systems a group already runs, so the store fits the operation rather than the other way round. The pattern matters more than the logo: each system keeps ownership of what it is genuinely best at, and the integration is built to survive one end being unavailable.
Can you handle Australian tax, shipping and payment requirements?
Yes — GST handling, Australian shipping carriers and rate logic, local payment gateways, and multi-currency for stores selling overseas. We have built and maintained commerce for Australian retail and duty-free operations, where tax and pricing rules are genuinely non-trivial.
How long does a Magento replatform or rebuild take?
For a mid-market retailer, plan on three to five months from kickoff to launch. Straightforward catalogues move faster; anything with B2B pricing, multiple warehouses or an ERP in the middle sits at the longer end. The variable that moves the date most is rarely development — it is how quickly product data can be cleaned and decisions signed off, which is work on your side that no agency can absorb for you.
What should we ask any Magento agency before signing?
Four questions separate agencies quickly. How many replatforms have you delivered from our current version, and can we speak to those merchants? What does your audit cover before you quote — extensions, integrations, customer groups, indexed URL count? How do you handle URL mapping so we do not lose search rankings? And what happens after launch, contractually? An agency that quotes without asking about your extensions and integrations is quoting a number it cannot stand behind.
What happens to our search rankings when we replatform?
They are at risk, and the risk is manageable if it is planned rather than discovered. Every indexed URL needs a mapped destination before launch, not after. Category and product URL structures usually differ between platforms, so a one-to-one map is rare and the exceptions need decisions. We treat the redirect map as a deliverable in its own right, and we measure the result afterwards rather than assuming it worked.
Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce — which licence do we need?
Open Source covers a surprising amount: catalogue, checkout, promotions and multi-store all work without a licence. Adobe Commerce earns its cost when you need the B2B suite, Page Builder for a marketing team that will not wait on developers, or Adobe's hosting and support obligations for compliance reasons. If nobody can name which of those you need, you probably do not need the licence yet.
Can you work alongside our existing development team?
Yes, and it is often the better arrangement. Some retailers need extra capacity for a push rather than a change of supplier; others want a second opinion on architecture before committing. We are equally willing to hand a stabilised platform back as to keep running it.
